On their first visit to the IVO, patients must bring their ID card and their Valencian Healthcare (SIP) card and go to the UDCA (New Patient Admissions) in Building D. Once their Clinical Record has been opened, they will be given their “IVO Identity Card”.
On their subsequent visits to the IVO, patients can go directly to the locations where they have been sent for their appointments, where they will find the admissions areas for each service or unit.
Patients must bring their “IVO Identity Card” to each visit, although they can also identify themselves with their SIP card.
In all admission areas, there are electronic Help Points for patients. These are devices with a touchscreen on the top where patients must go and confirm their arrival at the centre every time they come for their appointments.
The device will print out a ticket with basic appointment information (location and time) and an identifier, which will appear on the waiting room screen when it is the patient’s turn to enter the consultation room.
Electronic Help Points also allow users:

Basic rules of the Valencia Hospital Complex
The main objective of the team of professionals working at the IVO is to offer you the best care at all stages of your oncological process.
Medical assistance:
- Medical assistance is provided in the outpatients’ consultation rooms, operating theatres and diagnostic units from 8am to 5pm from Monday to Thursday and from 8am to 3pm on Fridays.
- The rest of the time, the Emergency Service provides care, along with the Intensive Care Unit and the other local doctors from the different specialities. The Emergency Service operates 24 hours a day.
Medical Visits During Admission
During admission, you will receive a daily visit from the ward’s medical staff who, at the indicated times, will inform you of the progress of your illness. For non-medical consultations, you may contact the nursing staff.
Diet
The medical staff will determine your diet or give you a choice from a menu, depending on your case.
It is recommended that you do not keep valuables on you during your hospital stay.
The IVO’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) attends to patients who require continuous monitoring and special care.
It operates 24 hours a day and has modern equipment, specialist doctors and a nursing team. It is, therefore, not necessary for companions to remain in the hospital while their relatives are in this unit.
It is important to leave a contact telephone number so that the family member can be reached.
The ICU’s visiting hours are from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 7:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
In the Inpatient Unit visits are allowed throughout the entire day, but it is advisable that they take place in the afternoons so as not to interrupt the hospital’s functions.
We recommend that a maximum of 2 companions per patient be in the rooms in order to respect the peace of the other hospitalised patients. (Due to the current circumstances of Covid-19, only one companion per patient can stay in the room.)
Common areas, such as the lobby or the lounge, have been set up to accommodate larger groups during medical visits, and accompanying persons must be kept out of the rooms.
Rules prevent pets or plants from being brought into the hospital.
As a healthcare user, there is a set of rights and duties that are granted through the Patient Rights and Information Act, which will be given to the patient and his/her relatives at the beginning of the hospital stay.
The patient will receive understandable, adequate information prior to any surgical intervention or diagnostic or invasive therapeutic procedure that entails relevant risks to his/her health.
The patient will express his/her acceptance and agreement, in writing, through the Informed Consent form. The doctor in charge must obtain the informed consent form, which may be freely withdrawn by the patient at any time.
At the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS), the Advance Directives Document is available to users. In this way, the patient will be able to express the instructions that must be taken into account regarding medical actions when the circumstances do not allow him/her to freely express his/her will.
